LAKE ARIEL, PA — Bring your little ones, ages three and four, for a walk outdoors at Lacawac Sanctuary, 94 Sanctuary Rd., on Saturday, April 18 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Naturalist educator Jenna Mauder will encourage children to use all five senses to explore the environment. The walk will conclude with a craft and a snack. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. The cost is $5 per child, $10 for three. Siblings under three are admitted free. Register by email at info@lacawac.org or call 580/689-9494.

On May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the sanctuary will host a Frogs & Bogs workshop, contributing to the Pennsylvania Amphibian and Reptile Survey (PARS). After winter’s snow has melted and spring’s rain has fallen, vernal (seasonal) pools are the perfect place to find amphibians and reptiles. Using nets and containers, participants will catch, photo document and release species, egg masses and whatever else we find.

PARS statewide coordinator, Marlin Corn will open the program with an introduction, providing tips for finding and identifying Pennsylvania’s amphibians and reptiles. Following a lunch break at the lodge overlooking Lake Lacawac, participants will break into groups and explore the sanctuary’s land. Field finding will be reported on the PARS website. This exploration is best suited for ages eight and up, teens and adults. Bring your own lunch and consider the benefits of using reusable containers. The workshop is free. Registration is appreciated at the above email or phone.
