LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum starts another new season on Saturday, April 5 in celebration of New York State trout season and the official opening of the 35th season. The theme is Women and Children First.

The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) lot just upstream from the entrance of the museum bridge, 1031 Old Rte. 17. Some of the top women movers and shakers and the Lake family will join Joan Wulff and deliver a ceremonial cast to ring in the season. This year the official casters will be casting with new pink fly lines for breast cancer awareness. And casters will use a Royal Wulff fly to launch the new museum gallery exhibit, “Wulff Flies: Still floating after 85 years,” that features the innovations in fly tying by Lee Wulff.

Immediately following the season’s opening cast, attendees will have a full day of activities to choose from. Bamboo Mike Canazon and his Cane Crew will run a casting tune-up, opportunity to cast a bamboo fly rod and a casting clinic in the Livingston Manor gym just down the road until 1 p.m. Agnes Van Put, 97 years young, will open her soup kitchen in the gift shop and ladle out her famous homemade soups. Coffee and other goodies will also be served.

In the museum, fly fishing’s World Ambassador Ted Patlen will present his spring ensemble of flies that will surely catch fish, and Lance Hidy, William Anderson and a group of wet fly and lymph tyers will demonstrate and teach a variety of patterns. At 2 p.m. in the Wulff Gallery, an award-winning movie on the fly tying of Megan Boyd and fly fishing for Atlantic salmon of Scotland will be shown.

It is a full day of fun for anyone interested in any level of fly fishing from the largest fly fishing center in the world, the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum. No admission. Donations greatly appreciated.
