LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — From March 1 through 8, the week of the 2014 Iditarod, visit Livingston Manor for a week-long celebration of Alaska’s 1,100-mile dog sled race from Anchorage to Nome. On March 1, 70 teams will cross the starting line of the 2014 Iditarod.

On Saturday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m., the film “Toughest Race on Earth: Iditarod” will be shown at Morgan Outdoors, 46 Main St. The 45-minute documentary takes a look behind the scenes of this dog-sled race. There will be Iditarod-themed refreshments, including snow muffins and musher snacks. Space is limited, so reserve your seat for the free event at 845/439-5507 or info@morganoutdoors.com.

During the week, stop by the Livingston Manor Library, 92 Main St., for dog-sledding books, movies, and to view the race on the Iditarod webcam. Kids can play sled-dog bingo for prizes. Pick up your official Musher Scorecard to keep track of the competition throughout the week at Morgan Outdoors.

On Saturday, March 8 at 3 p.m., meet Iditarod musher Kim Darst and her sled dog Cotton at Morgan Outdoors. Darst, living in New Jersey, trained for 10 years to compete in the 2009 Iditarod. Cotton was part of her dog team. Seating is limited, so reservations are suggested.

All events are free and open to the public. For more information, call Livingston Manor Library 845/439-5540 or Morgan Outdoors at 845/439-5507.
