DINGMANS FERRY, PA — Mike Dennis of Traditional Earth Skills will present two programs at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) in December. “Lenape of the Eastern Woodlands” will be held Saturday, December 7 and a “Winter Survival Hike” will be held Saturday, December 14. Both will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and cost $20.

“Lenape of the Eastern Woodlands” will teach participants about the day-to-day activities of the Lenape culture. The food, clothing and shelter of the local hunter gatherers will be presented, along with handmade artifacts. The program is best suited for ages 10-plus.

The “Winter Survival Hike” will teach hikers a variety of techniques required to survive in the woods during the winter months. Participants of this interactive hike will learn useful wintertime skills, including how to build a basic shelter and start a fire with minimal supplies. The winter survival hike is open to all ages.

Mike Dennis has studied native wilderness skills and botany since 1995. His company, Traditional Earth Skills, was founded in 2006 and offers a variety of living history, as well as wilderness skills, workshops, and presentations. These programs are combined with a concern for recent climate changes occurring world-wide, hoping to create solutions with which we can all live.
