Wally Lake Fest this weekend

HAWLEY, PA — Wally Lake Fest will be held this weekend from August 23 to 25.

Among the many events is the Boat Parade, taking place on Saturday, August 24 at 4 p.m. Participants enter their boat to win prizes for “best dressed. Registration is free and anyone interested in entering should call 570/226-4518. Spectators can watch as the boats parade around the lake. It starts at Sunny Point Cove and ends in front of the judge’s platform at the Tafton Dike.

On Sunday, August 25, the Tour de Towpath runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bike ride begins at Sawmill Cycles and continues to the historic Zane Grey Museum. This is an approximate 16 to 32 mile road ride. Cyclists can choose a self-guided ride or leave with the group at 10 a.m. Shuttle service is available from the museum for $10 or people can ride back. Bike rentals are available for $35. People can pre-register or sign up the day of the event beginning at 8:30 a.m. For more information or to register, call 570/352-3444.

Free sailboat rides allow people to enjoy the open water. Seasoned sailors from the Pocono School of Sailing and the Paupack Sailing Club volunteer their time and boats. The rides are offered on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Sailboats will depart from the Lighthouse Harbor Marina approximately every hour for a one-hour free sail, weather permitting. Reservations are required and the sailboats carry up to five passengers, plus the captain. Call 570/226-2141 to schedule a time slot.
