SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Park Rangers Susie Kaspar and Josh Poston will host a guided hike of the Mongaup River Trail on June 15 at 10:30 a.m. This two-mile linear trail provides a moderate hike with abundant opportunities to view eagles, wildlife and waterfowl.
Wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots, bring plenty of water, snacks, sunglasses, bug spray, binoculars, as well as a hat. The hike is free and is for the young as well as the experienced hiker.
The Mongaup River Trail is one of six trails featured in the “Take a Hike!” brochure, which gives descriptions and difficulty levels of trails in the Upper Delaware Valley, and provides a checklist to keep track of trails you’ve hiked, which can be turned in upon completion for a “Take a Hike!” patch.
The Mongaup River Trail is located just south of the Mongaup River on Route 97. Look for a small pull-off with a bulletin board. Additional parking is located at the New York Department of Environmental Conservation access parking lot. Call 570/685-4871.
