BARRYVILLE, NY — The National Canoe Safety Patrol (NCSP) will conduct its annual Swiftwater Rescue Training on the Upper Delaware River at Luke’s Landing, the Kittitinny/Barryville, NY base on Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5.

“This is a great opportunity for high school and college students to gain experience working with a federal agency (the National Park Service) and a volunteer organization (NCSP) to provide a public service” stated the Upper Delaware’s National Park Service Superintendent Sean McGuiness.

Young adults, ages 16 to 18, must have their parent’s permission to participate; children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Training covers in-water mobility, rescue techniques, first aid, boat unpinning, rescue swimming and other skills. Throughout the summer, monthly skill drills are scheduled. Training is recommended for first responders and volunteers who serve along the Delaware River.

Training costs $30 and includes a year’s membership dues.
