Wally Fest welcomes outdoor adventurers

Outdoor enthusiasts can look forward to an abundance of activities during the three days of Wally Lake Fest, an annual event that celebrates Lake Wallenpaupack and the surrounding lake region from August 23 to 25. There will be something for everyone at every skill level, from bike riding to free sailboat rides, from kicking back and enjoying a boat parade or a sailboat race to shopping or browsing in an open-air market, to listening to live music on the lake (the bands will perform on a floating stage).

How-to and DIY activities include canoe, stand-up paddleboard and kayak demonstrations as well as fly-casting demonstrations and instruction.

Other opportunities include a “Tour de Towpath” bike ride and a 41-mile motorcycle ride around the lake.

Free shuttle-bus service runs every five to 10 minutes on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (with a Hawley Silk Mill stop available between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.) and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For a complete schedule, brochures are available at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitors Center and area businesses, or visit www.wallylakefest.com and www.facebook.com/wallylakefest.

Wally Lake Fest is hosted by the Downtown Hawley Partnership and presented by Lighthouse Harbor Marina.
