Nature calls outdoor lovers in New York

NEW YORK STATE — New York State has just launched a new, online newsletter to highlight the state’s many opportunities for outdoor activities and to offer information about sites of interest and natural beauty.

Published by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEC), the October issue of “Outdoor Discovery” shows the kinds of articles one can find online on a regular basis.

This month the website includes articles about watching the great fall bird migration at Monetzuma Wetland Area near Seneca Falls, how to select the right kayak for fall kayaking in the Adirondacks and biking the trailway along the historic Erie Canal. There is also information about preparing for the opening of hunting season.

Regular monthly features will include “Hike-of-the-Month”—this month featuring Mt. Loretto Unique Area in Staten Island—and a “Safe-and-Sound” article covering how to enjoy the great outdoors safely.

You can find “Outdoor Discovery” online at http://www.dec.ny.gov/public/84461.html.
