GREENTOWN, PA — The Varden Conservation Area of Promised Land State Park will hold a couple of environmental education events in May. The first is a “Frog Slog” on Friday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the Tannery Access. Join Carissa Long on a hunt for frogs and salamanders at wetland locations within area. There could be opportunities to catch sight of the spotted salamander, to find eggs and possibly to find some fairy shrimp. The program will start under the pavilion with an introduction to amphibian identification and frog calls. Dress to get muddy and wear waders/water shoes (optional). Registration is required.

The second will be “Learning May Wildflowers,” on Thursday, May 24 at 6 p.m. at the Western Wayne Middle School lot (call 570/676-3428 for directions.) Join the park naturalist for a wildflower hunt along the new trails at Varden Conservation Area. The program is open to all ages and abilities. A limited number of Newcomb’s Wildflower Guides will be provided. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

Registration is required for both programs. Visit www.visitpaparks.com, click on “Calendar” and choose Varden Conservation Area, or call 570/676-0567.
