Skiing and eagle watching

DINGMANS FERRY, PA — Cross-country skiing will continue at the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) in February, including a Bridge the Gap session, “Ski the McDade Trail,” which is free thanks to funding provided by the William Penn Foundation, on Saturday, February 10. The session of free ski lessons for  beginners takes place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Skis, poles and boots are provided; register with shoe size to guarantee a spot. 

Other cross-country skiing programs will take place on Saturday, February 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon; Sunday, February 4 from 1 to 2 p.m.; Sunday, February 11 from 1 to 2  p.m.; Saturday, February 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and Sunday, February 25 from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults, $10 per child.

On February 3 there will also be an eagle watch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Take a trip north in search of eagles and other rare wintering birds. Visit the Mongaup Reservoir, the Delaware River and the Delaware Highlands Conservancy to look for winter residents and nesting pairs. Bring a lunch, camera and warm clothes. The cost is $20 per person.

Both programs require registration. There is a maximum of 20 spaces in the eagle bus, so register early to reserve a seat. Call 570/828-2319,visit  www.peec.org or email peec@peec.org.
