Funding available for forest stewardship

Posted

WALTON, NY — The Pinchot Institute for Conservation, in partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Audubon New York, the Catskill Forest Association and the Delaware Highlands Conservancy, is offering an opportunity for producers in the Delaware River Watershed to apply for financial assistance to address resource concerns on non-industrial private forest land.

Funding is available to private forest owners for forest stewardship planning and for implementing practices that restore degraded forests, reduce sedimentation and runoff, and enhance wildlife habitat in addition to addressing other resource concerns. Local partners and NRCS offices will work together to provide assistance to producers in the project area in planning and implementing conservation practices.

July 21 is the application cutoff date for the next round of funding. Applicants interested in implementing practices on non-industrial private forest land must provide a copy of their Forest Management Plan by August 18 for consideration in this round. All applications are competitive and are ranked based on locally identified resource priorities and the overall benefit to the environment.

Interested landowners should contact their local NRCS office (find them at offices.sc.egov.usda.gov/locator/app?state=NY) for additional information and to obtain an application, or visit https://tinyurl.com/ycv93vre/

As part of application process, all landowners will need to complete USDA eligibility requirements, as outlined at https://tinyurl.com/yda58fwc.
