A Light Rain

Posted

This storm carries blood

Heavy, tropical drops

Of swept away farms

Pigs and chickens

The neighbor’s dog

Not to mention the

Damage

This storm

This gentle pattering

Against my window

Easy rivers

Washing the streets

Of the city

This wind was a bit

Too strong

I closed the window

This wind carried sirens

Evacuations

This wind carried houses

Trailers and vehicles

Anything that could float

This wind carried the ocean

The ocean carried the buildings

The buildings carried the dreams

And here it is

Lightly touching my windowpane

Whispering of washed away potential

This is a light rain

In queens

But the droplets are pregnant

Swollen bellies

Filled with stories

That didn’t end well
