Saying goodbye to our hometown and Triversity

Recently my husband, Kris Jarmann, and I were talking about a major transition in our lives, our move from Milford, PA to Wilton Manors, FL. It is bittersweet, as we are leaving a community and an organization, TriVersity, that we love. As we tried to explain to each other what we were feeling we realized our feelings are extremely similar: though Milford has only been our home for seven years, and we have both lived in many other communities, for us Milford will always be our hometown—and leaving it was certainly not an easy decision.

On our first trip to Milford to see if this were the place we might [like] to live we felt a very special connection. We were considering Milford due to many factors, but the two most important were proximity to New York and its seeming to be a place where we could live our lives openly and without fear.

What we found in Milford were some of the most wonderful and caring people—and new friendships that will last a lifetime. Also, in general, we found people that have an incredible devotion to the area, an openness by many to diversity and a community that could come together for the benefit of others.

We also found TriVersity (formerly Upper Delaware GLBT Center), Center for Gender and Sexual Diversity, where we were blessed to meet some of the most giving people we had ever met. Becoming involved with TriVersity has been one of the best experiences of our life. It was my privilege to serve as executive director and Kris as secretary and planning committee chair. The experience of watching people of all ages “living their truth” and those who were on their personal journey to being their authentic selves has helped us grow in ways we would never have imagined. We are thrilled to be leaving TriVersity in the hands of the new executive director, Cindy Stine, and the rest of the amazing board of directors.

Our lives have been enriched and forever changed thanks to our adopted hometown—Milford—and the people here will live on in our hearts and minds. We look forward to our visits back home to see this beautiful town and the amazing people that live here.
