Christmas present for whom?

Those who have worked in secret to create this Great American Tax Break seem to be of the mind that tossing a few dollars about for low- and middle-income families would distract from the bags of riches being provided to the very wealthy.

I believe that most people agree that fair tax reform is needed, but not the unfair legislation that was just passed. I was expecting and hoping for a postcard tax form.

Prior to the Reagan years, income growth in this country favored middle- and lower-income families. Following Reagan’s “trickle-down” economics we saw the start of an expanding disparity between lower-income and higher-income families. In recent years, we’ve seen graphs of that income spread resembling a ski slope, with the super-rich at the top.

What has happened to the traditional Republican concern about controlling the national debt and balancing budgets? Those are worthy pursuits. Unless the leopard has truly changed its spots, it is deeply concerning that those same legislators who are adding staggering deficit dollars will at some point admit that someone has to pay the piper. When considering the cost for needed infrastructure repairs among other things; who do we think will be asked to foot the bill? I suspect not the rich.

Watch for takeaways from those who just received the crumbs.
