Robert Douglas Norris of Forestburgh, NY and a lifetime resident of the area died Thursday, August 8, 2014 at home. He was 66.

He was born March 15, 1948 in Liberty, NY, the son of the late Paul Edgar and the late Louie Constance Mearns Norris.

Prior to his retirement Robert was the controller for Schmidts Wholesale, Inc., Monticello, NY. Previously he was the Village of Monticello Treasurer from 1986 to 1988 and Manager from 1988 to 1992.

He was the current President of the Board of the Ethebert B. Crawford Public Library, a member of the Foundation for the Catskill Regional Medical Center, past treasurer of the Board for the Catskill Regional Medical Center and a past Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee for Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was the current President of The Rural Sullivan County Housing Opportunities, Inc., the past Chairman of the Administrative Council and the Financial Secretary for the United Methodist Church of Monticello, where he has served his beloved church for over 25 years. He was the recipient of the 2006 Pride of Sullivan Award for the Town of Forestburgh and past Chairman for the United Way of Sullivan County. He was the past President of the Federation for the Homeless of Sullivan County. He was a past President of the Monticello Action Committee and a past member of the U.S. Postal Advisory Committee. He was a past Board Member for CACHE (Community Action Committee to Help the Economy) and past President of the American Heart Association Sullivan County Chapter. He was the past Treasurer for the Monticello Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the American Institute of Banking.

Surviving are: his sister, Carol P. Furchak of Rock Hill; niece, Jennifer Shamah and her husband Al and their children Sarah and David of Rock Hill, NY; nephew, Jason Furchak and his wife January and their children Jorja and Jenna of Clinton, ME; also many cousins and his church family.

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Edward J. Furchak, Jr., on December 29, 2009.

Visitation was held Sunday, August 10, 2014 and funeral services on Monday, August 11, 2014 at the United Methodist Church of Monticello, 445 Broadway, Monticello, NY with Rev. Melvin Boone and the Rev. John Thomason, with burial at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello, NY.
