Edmund Schimek passed away on August 27, 2013. He was 94.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 28, 1918 and retired from the building services trade. He was predeceased by his loving wife Alice (Rutledge) Schimek, together for 65 years.

Edmund is survived by daughters Greta Salzberg and her husband Dr. Paul, of Lake Huntington, Alice Krivit of Roscoe, Marianne Schimek of Orangeburg, and son-in-law Gary Krivit; grandchildren Gavin and Holly Salzberg, David and his wife Melissa Krivit, Vanessa and Gus Romano of Cedar Run, NJ and great grandchildren Alexa, Gus Jr., and Brielle Romano, formerly of Liberty; several nieces and nephews; his friend Micky Bury Ladenhauf of Roscoe, and his furry little companion Eva.

He was a generous, hard-working and independent man, a good father, grandfather and uncle, who had a passion for gardening, painting and writing, and enjoyed listening to his favorite singer, Johnny Cash.

Edmund proudly served his country in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII and wanted to be remembered as having been of the last of the greatest generation. He was buried with military honors in the Riverview cemetery in Roscoe, and will sadly be missed by his family and those who knew him.
