Catherine M. Casella

Catherine M. Casella, of Beach Lake, PA and formerly of Southampton, Long Island, and a longtime resident of the area, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was 78.

The daughter of the late Conrad and Mary Flannery Heinzerling, she was born December 20, 1935 in Merrick, NY. Catherine lived in Southampton for many years before moving to Beach Lake. She was employed for many years for the plane manufacturer, Grumman, on Long Island. She also ran her own small business, Beach Plum Cottages.

Catherine was a member of St. Bernard Church, Beach Lake, and she also attended St. Francis Xavier Church, Narrowsburg, NY. Catherine was a member of the St. Bernard Women’s Guild, member of Patriot Connects, member of Red Hat Society, member of Woman’s Club of Honesdale, member of Hawley Garden Club, and a member of Narrowsburg Food Pantry. A family statement reads: “Catherine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener, avid mahjong player and loved to line dance. She was involved in so many good causes. She will truly be missed.”

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Salvatore J. Casella; six children, Carol Eaton and her husband Marty of Huntsville, AL, Thomas Casella and his wife Angela of Allendale, NJ, Robert Casella of Southampton, NY, Jeffrey Casella and his wife Laret of Nashville, TN, Sally O’Neill and her husband Edward of Delhi, NY and Daniel Casella of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Conrad Heinzerling of Pensacola, FL, and Henry Heinzerling of Paldale, CA; nine grandchildren, Tara, Shana, Sean, Steven, Colleen, Jason, Emilia, Fiona, and Finn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 18, 2014 at 12 noon at St. Francis Xavier Church, 151 Bridge St., Narrowsburg, NY. Father William Scully O.F.M. will officiate.
