Walentin Kotlarow of Eldred, NY, a longtime resident of the area, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. He was 83.

He was born March 10, 1928 in Ukraine, the son of the late Peter and the late Irene Kotlarow. Walentin married Nadia Komar 56 years ago on May 7, 1955 in NYC.

He was a member, past president and an altar server of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Glen Spey, NY. Walentin retired from Lufthansa Airlines where he worked as a foreman in the Cargo Division. A family statement reads: “Walentin was a good person who was very helpful to everyone and he loved his family and his church.”

Surviving are his wife at home; son Alexander Kotlarow of Long Beach, NY; daughter Julia Mulherin and husband Daniel of Odessa, FL; sisters Luba and Halia of Ukraine; granddaughter Shawna Mulherin; grandson Ryan Mulherin; sisters-in-law Tamara Palylyk and husband Stefan of Eldred and Terry Christodoulou of Queens; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5, with a Liturgy Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 329 High Rd., Glen Spey with V. Rev. Nestor Kowal officiating. Burial will be at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.
