Joseph H. Stiene of Urbana, IL, formerly of Narrowsburg, NY, died on Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana. He was 73.

Mr. Stiene was born on March 18, 1938 in Narrowsburg, the son of Henry W. and Mary Dexheimer Stiene. He married Evelyn Lackey on October 17, 1959 in Narrowsburg; she survives.

Mr. Stiene was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired as a police officer from the University of Illinois and from the City of Urbana parking garage. He also taught at the Police Training Institute. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Champaign, the Fraternal Order of Police and the National Rifle Association.

A family statement reads: “He is free from the awful disease that took over his mind and body for so long. He has made it to his forever home.”

Also surviving are one son, Joseph S. Stiene and wife Kimberly of Tolono, IL; daughter Autumn Stiene and husband Mark of Winter Haven, FL; brothers Edward Stiene of Monticello, NY and Henry J. Stiene of Huntersville, NC; and grandsons Cale and Carson Stiene.

He is preceded in death by one brother.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, December 22 at the First Christian Church, Champaign, the Rev. Tim Barber officiating.
