MARIE K. WARD

Marie K. Ward of Damascus, PA passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at home. She was 92.

She was preceded in death by two husbands: Kenneth Brooks Canfield in 1948 and John C. Ward in 1993.

Born on January 5, 1919 in Carley Brook, PA, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Philippine Munger Riefler.

Marie was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She served as past president of the Wayne County AARP and a past member of the Advisory Council for the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging. Marie was involved with the Damascus Seniors and the Card Players of Callicoon. She enjoyed the piano, singing, writing poetry and quilting; her flower garden; and performing tap, jitterbug and country line dancing. Above all, Marie will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by nine children, Jean Carney and husband Earl of Sayre, PA, Sylvia Crum and husband Wilbur of Sayre, Carolyn Kennedy and husband Michael of Athens, PA, Betty Robbins and husband James of Towanda, PA, Kenneth Canfield of Galilee, PA, Barbara Morse and husband Marshall of Klamath Falls, OR, Karl Canfield and wife Susan of Galilee, Jacqueline Thol and husband Jeffrey of Honesdale, PA and Marion Thol and husband Lance of Tyler Hill, PA; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

She is also preceded in death by a son, John Ward; and siblings John Riefler, Hazel Bellamy, Wilbur Riefler and Olive Canfield.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, Honesdale, with Rev. Jean Blackie, Pastor of the Damascus United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Galilee.
