Barbara Behling Goffin, formerly of Woodstock, NY, passed away on October 21 at Muir Senior Center in Martinez, CA. She was 67.

Barbara was born in Temple, TX on August 29, 1944 to the late George (Chris) and Myrtle (Mickey) Behling, formerly of Narrowsburg, NY. She was raised in Richmond Hill, NY, graduated from Richmond Hill High School and majored in Latin America Area studies at Queens College. She also lived in Los Angeles, Mexico, Bisbee, AZ and northern California.

Barbara was an artist. She owned a clothing store on Sunset Boulevard in the 1960s, making clothing for many artists. Barbara crafted beautiful pottery, and also produced the documentary, “The Potters of Mata Ortiz.” She lived in north central Mexico, near Mata Ortiz, before moving to LA to be nearer to her son. Barbara was an environmentalist and worked for “Heal the Bay” while in Los Angeles. She was also an avid traveler and reader and a lover of music.

Barbara is survived by her son Jesse and wife Randall of Cincinnati, OH; sisters Nancy Dillon and husband Bob of Brooklyn Center, MN, Jill Padua and partner Mike Jung of Narrowsburg; nephew Matthew Dillon, wife Tracy and great nephew Owen, and niece and Godchild Cassie Dillon, all of Minneapolis; and nephew Evan Padua of Narrowsburg and Jackson, WY.

Barbara has donated her body to science. Memorial donations may be made to Sutter Care at Home, 4071 Port Chicago Highway, Concord, CA 94520. We are so very thankful for the hospice care she received from Sutter and the nursing homes where she spent the last two years.

A memorial gathering/luncheon will be held Saturday, December 3 at 1 p.m. at the Gloria Krause Recital Hall, Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main St., Narrowsburg. Please bring a dish to share—and in honor of Barbara, if you have pottery of hers, please bring your dish in one of hes. Bring your memories, photos and anything else you’d like to share.
