Donald C. Thompson, 76, of Honesdale, PA passed away at home on August 9, 2011. He was 76.

Don is survived by his wife, the former Martha Mowry. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Don was born on October 9, 1934 in Scranton, PA, the son of the late Harley M. and Helen Mae Burdick Thompson.

He was raised in Lakewood, PA and attended Houghton College, NY where he met his wife. Don and Martha moved to Buffalo, NY where he received his MSS degree from the University of Buffalo. He moved to Philadelphia and became the director of the Presbyterian Children’s Village. The family came to Honesdale in 1969 and Don became the Executive Director of the Wayne County Children and Youth Services until his retirement in 1997. Don was an active sports official in PIAA and ASA softball and was instrumental in starting the Big Brother and Big Sister programs and the Human Resource Center of Wayne County.

He was a member of the Tabernacle Bible Church and Gideon’s International.

He is also survived by stepmother Lorna Thompson; children Lori Bunting and husband Ray of Mountville, SC, Phil Thompson and wife Debbie of Beach Lake, PA and Bruce Thompson and wife Kerry of Honesdale; 13 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

A memorial service was held at the Tabernacle Bible Church, Honesdale on Saturday, August 13 with the Rev. Dr. Richard Gregory officiating. Interment was at Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.
