Zachary Michael Romano Sr., of Hawley, PA, passed away on July 3, 2011, at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was 56.

Born in Newark, NJ, on February 5, 1955, he was the son of Anthony and the late Teresa Sarnowski Romano.

His wife is Dianne Young Romano. They would have celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary in September.

Zac was a sculptor for 35 years and worked primarily in ceramics, fine silver and pewter. He was in the process of developing a line of pewter heraldic miniature knights. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Scranton in 1993 and was a substitute teacher in several area school districts for six years.

Zachary enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, gardening, cooking and playing the guitar. He was a wonderful husband and devoted father. His sense of humor, intelligence, generosity and gentle nature will be greatly missed.

He is also survived by son Zachary Jr. and daughter Julie Rose; father Anthony of Lawrenceville, NJ; siblings Anne Vergara and husband Norman of Shohola, PA, Nancy Gabriell of Lawrenceville, NJ, Jim and wife Inge of South Boston, VA and Maryrose Balick and husband Howard of Hamburg, NJ; sister-in-law Judie Romano of Wilmington, DE, mother-in-law Eleanor Young of Honesdale, PA; brothers-in-law Jim and wife Valarie of Garrison, NY and Bob and wife Suzanne of Madison, NJ; several nieces and nephews including his godson Anton Romano and wife Kathy of Kennett Square, PA.

He is predeceased by a brother, Tony.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, July 7 at Grace Episcopal Church, Honesdale, with Fr. Edward K. Erb officiating. Interment followed in Grace Episcopal Cemetery, Honesdale. Visit www.hesslingfuneralhome.com.
