William J. Cooper Jr. of Port Jervis, NY, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis after a courageous fight with cancer. He was 64.

William J. Cooper Jr. of Port Jervis, NY, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis after a courageous fight with cancer. He was 64.

He was born October 17, 1946 in Port Jervis, the son of the late William J. and Catherine Hinkley Cooper Sr.

He served our country during the Vietnam War in the Marine Corps.

A family statement reads: “Bill was a wonderful person who loved golfing and going to the casino. He also enjoyed the company of his cat, Phoebe. He will be greatly missed.”

Surviving are brothers Gerald P. Cooper and wife Robin of Glen Spey, NY and Kevin M. Cooper and companion Jackie of Port Jervis; sisters Cathleen Smith of Port Jervis and Rose Tilstra of Cape Coral, FL; and special friend Rose Clune; special friend Chad Clifford; and nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by brother-in-law Kenneth Tilstra.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.
