Joseph R. Malzahn of Shohola, PA, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. He was 18.

The son of Clinton and Regina Wolfe Malzahn Jr., he was born September 23, 1992 in Port Jervis, NY.

Joseph was a graduate of Delaware Valley High School and was on the wrestling, cross country and football teams. An avid skateboarder, his nickname was “Mr. Excitement”. He was a member and altar server for St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Shohola, PA. He won the Scranton Dioceses Bishop’s Youth Award. He attended Marywood University where he won a French award He was a member of Swing Gate Hunting Club.

A family statement reads: “Joseph was a loving son, brother, grandson and nephew. He was always happy about everything. He will always be in ours hearts and will greatly be missed.”

He is also survived by brother Christopher Malzahn of Shohola; sister Patricia Malzahn of Scranton, PA; grandfather Clinton Malzahn Sr. of Sparrowbush, NY; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. Ann’s R.C. Church with Father Thomas Major officiating. Interment followed in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Shohola.
