Ruth (Brown) Glossenger went to be with her Lord while a patient at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, PA, on April 16, 2011. She was 87.

She was born September 6, 1923, to Herbert and Isabel (Taylor) Brown. She left home at 13 and went to work at a boarding house in Maplewood, PA while attending Lake Ariel High School. She married Robert Glossenger, and in 1943, they moved into their house in Beach Lake, PA. There she started a hobby of making and decorating wedding cakes which became a legacy.

Ruth accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal savior as a teenager. Ruth and her husband were instrumental in the establishment of Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle, recorded as charter members in 1956.

She crowded children into her small living room for Bible stories and singing, ending with an invitation to be born again. She was an avid letter writer, keeping contact with students who went off to college from the Tabernacle and others who went astray and ended up in prison.

She is survived by daughter Ruthann Santoli and husband Sal of Honesdale, PA; son Rev. Bob Glossenger and wife Lois of North Carolina; brother N. “Pat” Brown and wife Joyce of Greely, CO; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Francis, Eugene and Albert; sisters Betty, Beatrice and Marion; and her husband in 1996.

Services were held at the Tabernacle Bible Church (formerly the Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle) on Thursday, April 21, 2011.

Contributions may be made to Tabernacle Bible Church 455 Grove St., Honesdale, Pa., 18431 or Child Evangelism Fellowship, PO Box 628, Honesdale, PA, 18431.
