SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY — “The Fantasticks,” the world’s longest-running musical, is coming to the stage at the Rivoli Theatre on Route 42 in South Fallsburg for six performances, courtesy of the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop (SCDW), under the direction of Sally Gladden of Woodridge and the musical direction of Leon Hilfstein of Hurleyville. Performances will be held Friday and Saturday, June 15, 16, 22, 23 at 8 p.m., Sunday, June 17 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, June 24 at 4 p.m.
Two houses are separated by a wall, portrayed by a mute actor (Hayley Cosgrove of Grahamsville) in an unspecified American town. The mysterious El Gallo (Jim Sullivan of Long Eddy) explains the plot of the play as he talks of love and sings the show’s best-known song (“Try to Remember”). Two young people, Matt (Christopher Sheridan of Woodbourne) and Luisa (Marissa Cohen of Ellenville), live next door to each other. Their parents (Heather Strauss of Rock Hill and Allen Eckers of Swan Lake) pretend to be feuding in order to trick the two willfully disobedient children into falling in love. Naturally, the plan does not work out quite as expected.
Tickets cost $18 for adults, $15 for senior citizens and $10 for students with a valid student ID. Attend any Friday performance, set your own price and “pay what you can.” Tickets will be on sale at the box office one hour prior to curtain for each performance, or can be purchased online @ www.ShowTix4U.com in South Fallsburg.
