Residents oppose ‘mega-developments’

May 22, 2012

HURLEYVILLE, NY — Alarmed by the proposal of densely populated developments affecting the Towns of Thompson and Fallsburg, concerned neighbors have formed a coalition. An organizational strategy meeting for area neighbors opposed to the proposed GanEden/Kelli Woods development, which a press release from the coalition terms a “mega-development,” has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 30 at 7 p.m. at the Hurleyville Firehouse.

Residents of Columbia Hill, Hurleyville, Old Liberty Road and Anawana Lake Road, as well as concerned Thompson and Fallsburg residents, are invited to attend the meeting.

The GanEden proposal is for 885 units: garden apartments, town houses, senior housing and a convenience store being built on 212.6 acres of what was the old Columbia Hotel property. The property lies both in the Town of Thompson (199 acres) and the Town of Fallsburg (13.6 acres). Kelli Woods proposes an additional 160 units, tied into the larger development for water and sewage, on 90 acres on Anawana Lake Road. Sixty-seven acres of wetland are situated on the two properties.
