LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — High atop a mountain in the Sullivan County Catskills, there is a musical gem that is celebrating its 21st anniversary season. This year’s Sunset Concert Series will see a total of five concerts performed at the beautiful Sunset Concert Pavilion located in Shandelee, just a few miles from Livingston Manor, and will conclude with the final sixth performance in the Event Gallery at Bethel Woods Center for the Performing Arts.

Shandelee Music Festival begins its 2014 celebration with an out-of-this-world performance. The Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players will return to Sullivan County performing at Shandelee on Thursday, August 7, at 7 p.m.

Created in 2002 as a tribute to Jens Nygaard, the conductor of the Jupiter Symphony orchestra, the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players dedicate themselves to celebrating and furthering his legacy of musical excellence. Their mission includes extending performance opportunities for outstanding musicians, and spreading their love of music through unusual programs of well-known pieces, as well as works by less well known composers.
The Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players will perform “Fratres” by Arvo Part, Mozart’s “Grande Sestetto Concertante,” and Brahms “Sextet No. 2 in G.”

The Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players performing at Shandelee are Dmitri Berlinsky and Stefani Collins on violin; Maurycy Banaszek and Adelya Shagidullina on viola; and Mihai Marica and Christine Lamprea on cello.

“The musicians are young and vigorous, and they throw themselves into their performances with an abandon that catches the music’s inner fire,” said Allan Kozinn in The New York Times.

All the Sunset Concerts of the Shandelee Music Festival are followed by specialty dessert receptions. Concert tickets cost $25 for adults and $10 for students aged 17 and under. Advanced concert reservations are required, and can be made by calling 845/439-3277. Online ticket reservations can be made at www.shandelee.org/concerts/tickets.htm.
