Native son’s opera to be performed in NYC

April 21, 2011

NEW YORK CITY — The opera “Angel of the Amazon,” by Evan Mack, will be performed from May 6 to May 22 in the Jerome Robbins Theater at the
Baryshnikov Arts Center,
450 W. 37th Street (www.smarttix.com/show.aspx?showcode=ANG18). Mack was born and raised in Forestburgh and is a 1999 graduate of Port Jervis High School.
In 2005, Dorothy Stang, a 73-year-old Sister of Notre Dame de Namur, from Dayton, Ohio was brutally murdered in the town of Boa Esperanza, located in the Brazilian rainforest. Paid by the owner of a logging company, two gunmen shot Dorothy six times as she read the Beatitudes. The opera depicts her life’s work, her devotion to her mission with Brazilian peasant farmers and the events that sent her on a path of martyrdom.
“Angel of the Amazon” has received rave reviews from the Cincinnati Enquirer. Visit www.angeloftheamazon.com.
