Praise for officials’ support of casino development

June 26, 2013

Now that the Upstate New York Gaming Economic Development Act has been enacted, Senator John Bonacic, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Committee on Racing, Wagering and Gaming, deserves special recognition and praise. As a direct result of his leadership, the Catskills are in position to benefit from the positive economic impact and thousands of new jobs that we anticipate will result from the development and operation of our project.

We applaud Governor Cuomo’s leadership and commitment to help revive the upstate economy through this legislation. We are appreciative that he and the state legislature have seized the opportunity to bring thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in investment to the region. We must also recognize the support of Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, who has tirelessly championed this effort, as well as Town of Thompson Supervisor Tony Cellini and the County of Sullivan IDA, all of whom have been supportive of our proposed project.

Empire Resorts and EPR Properties will continue with the efforts to bring a first-class destination resort casino to the site of the former Concord Resort in Sullivan County, New York. This legislation provides clarity and guidance that will enable us, EPR Properties and the Town of Thompson, to finalize our development plans, which have already been underway for two full years. In July, we expect to begin the process of preparing and filing with the Town of Thompson the paperwork necessary to begin site work.
