PA Republicans ‘will try anything under the sun’

March 13, 2013

It never ceases to amaze me the hoops that Pennsylvania Republicans will go through in order to thwart the Democrats, or any other party for that matter, from winning an election. It truly boggles the mind.

Prior to the recent presidential election, they passed the voter ID law that was designed to suppress the voting rights of minorities, the elderly and students, who generally vote for Democrats. Well, that didn’t work because the PA Supreme Court found it unfair and deemed it unconstitutional. Secondly, they have attempted to gerrymander the voting districts so that Republican candidates would have clear advantages.

Last, but not least, the Republican majority is now pushing very hard to change the Electoral College system in Pennsylvania. Again, an overt attempt to beat back the Democrats from winning elections. The way it is set up now, in most states, the presidential candidate who wins the popular vote receives all of the state’s electoral votes. If the Republicans had it their way, President Obama would have received only 12 electoral votes while Romney received eight. State Senate Republican Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi is now planning to introduce a measure that would accomplish this goal in the next few weeks.

It is quite apparent that the Republicans can’t appeal to the majority of the voters and can’t win a presidential election. So now this—they will try at any cost to rig the system in their favor. If all else fails, why don’t they just ban the Democratic Party and any other opposing parties in the state? Ah yes, that’s the ultimate ticket. The Republican Party is pathetic.
