Grahamsville rapist captured
July 23, 2012 —
MONTICELLO - Convicted rapist Paul Curry, 38 of Grahamsville is in custody after 48 hours on the run. Curry, who was out on bail, awaiting sentencing in a 2011 rape case, eluded Sheriff's Detectives on Tuesday (7/17/12) when they went to his residence to arrest him on a warrant. Curry had violated an order of protection when he contacted his 12 year old victim.
On Thursday 7/19/12, just after 5:00 PM a uniformed state trooper from the Liberty barracks developed information that Paul Curry was hiding at a residence on Big Woods Road in the Town of Thompson. The trooper took Curry into custody, but had to immediately take him to Catskill Regional Medical Center because the suspect had swallowed a large amount of pills.
Curry was turned over to Sheriff's deputies at the hospital. County Court Judge Michael McGuire arraigned Curry at the hospital and immediately revoked his bail in the pending case.
Curry was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff and will be sent to the Sullivan County Jail as soon as he is released from the hospital. Sheriff Mike Schiff thanked all of the Sullivan County Police agencies that participated in the man hunt. "Getting this subject off the street was a top priority", said the Sheriff.
