Citizens’ group makes presentation on Narrowsburg school building, survey offered

January 25, 2012

A new organization, The Solution Project, has emerged from the Take Two citizens’ committee, formed in December to come up with a plan to purchase and develop the Narrowsburg school building in a way that will best enhance the community.

The Solution Project’s Kevin Vertrees is scheduled to give a presentation to the board of the Sullivan West Central School District at its next regular monthly meeting, describing the group’s vision for the building and its progress in identifying potential investors and tenants. Committee member

Joe Levine, an architect and Milanville, PA resident, said, “It is a smart and intuitive initiative—to create our own sustainable community asset, whose timing couldn’t be better given the collective energy that has been on display in the Upper Delaware.”

The Solution Project’s mission statement says in part, “Our goal is to nurture and expand the economic opportunities available to the Upper Delaware River Corridor by serving as an incubator for a diversity of ideas, business models and sustainable business practices.” Although a non-profit, it plans to form a for-profit subsidiary that can be used as an investment vehicle to purchase and manage the school or other assets in keeping with its mission.

To further refine its vision, The Solution Project has constructed a survey to get a better idea of the community’s wants and needs. The survey may be taken online at htthttp://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W6T8JKK or the print copy on this page can be filled in and mailed to Kevin Vertrees, 1724 County Rt. 23, Narrowsburg NY 12764.

The Sullivan West school board meeting will be held at the high school building in Lake Huntington at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 2.
