African drumming at Seelig
September 8, 2011 —
LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — African drumming master Kofi Donkor will bring his musical artistry to the Seelig Theater at SUNY Sullivan on Tuesday, September 20 at 6 p.m. in a performance titled “Drumming: The Heartbeat of Humanity.” It is sponsored by New Hope Community and SUNY Sullivan. The performance is free and open to the public.
Donkor’s music celebrates daily life, marriage, initiation, childbirth, planting, harvesting and the end of life. His gift is one that was passed on to him from the generations of African drummers who came before him. A native of Otumi, a village in Ghana, Donkor travels the country sharing his gift with audiences of all ages.
The performance is made possible in part with funding from a Sullivan County Arts & Heritage grant funded by the Sullivan County Legislature and administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. Call 845/434.8300, ext 316.
