Celebrating the river in Narrowsburg
July 21, 2011 —
NARROWSBURG, NY — RiverFest will celebrate its 21st annual summer with live music, original art, local craft vendors, information about the ecosystem and more on Sunday, July 24 in Narrowsburg. The festivities begin at 9:45 a.m. with River Dogs on Parade, at which pooches and their owners parade from the former Narrowsburg Central School on Erie Street in Narrowsburg to the Main Street bandstand.
Presented by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) and sponsored by Catskill Regional Medical Center, RiverFest is a family-friendly street fair where residents and visitors can talk with artists and artisans, enjoy the River Dogs on Parade, sample an array of street foods, celebrate the ecology of the pristine Delaware River and encourage children to create art at Kids Korner.
The centerpiece of the event is a live auction of 60 original works of art created on Riverfest poster boards. At 12:30 p.m., auctioneer Jerry Malek will auction off the posters, which are created by local artists. Posters are available for preview at www.ArtsAllianceSite.org and in the windows of the DVAA.
Local music acts at the Main Street bandstand will include Richard Johansen with Stacy Cohen and Friends at 10:30 a.m. and Carol Smith’s Little Sparrow at 2:30 p.m. Heavy Wood, featuring Mike Jung on acoustic guitar, will perform folk and pop at the terrace at Gerard’s River Grill at 11 a.m. Belly dancers Sabah and Dancers of the Dawn return for the second year to perform at 3:30 p.m.
Over three dozen artist and artisan booths line Main Street. You’ll be able to meet and buy from potters; jewelers; woodworkers; textile, glass, and stone artists; a broom maker; a chain saw sculptor; painters; and photographers.
