RUTH TURNER

Ruth Turner of Damascus, PA and Bethany Village, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away after a short illness on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, PA. She was 92.

The daughter of the late Martin and Alfonsa Baker Wheelock, she was born June 19, 1918 in Conklin Hill, PA. Ruth was married for 55 years to the late Malvin Turner.

Ruth was a cook at Damascus School, Wayne Highlands School district, before retirement. She was a member of Delaware Valley National Retired Teachers and of Delaware Valley and Jeffersonville, NY Senior Citizens.

A family statement reads, in part: “Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved any card game, including pinochle, and also enjoyed Scrabble. She had a brilliant mind all the way up to the end. She knitted afghans for people in the area. Ruth had an optimistic outlook and was upbeat and positive. She will be greatly missed.”

Survivors include daughter Barbara Pingel and husband Fred of Beach Lake, PA; granddaughter Andrea Pingel of Bel Camp, MD; grandson Lee Pingel and wife Marta of Beach Lake; great-grandchildren Logan, Emma and Ellie Pingel; and niece Judy Schott and husband Richard of Honesdale.

Ruth is predeceased by sister Catherine Masher; brother George Wheelock; and nephew Charles Wheelock.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 11 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY, with Pastor James Corbin officiating. Burial followed in Conklin Hill Cemetery, Damascus.
