A day of music in Narrowsburg

October 9, 2013

NARROWSBURG, NY — On Saturday, October 12, the Delaware Valley Chamber Orchestra partners with the Tusten Historical Society, local businesses and public support to present Narrowsburg Music Day. A series of events will take place on Main Street and in Tusten Theatre.

At 2 p.m. there will be a free concert by the Buddy Allen Band performing on the deck on Main Street. Sponsored by Narrowsburg Electric, this concert of rhythm and blues is led by Buddy Allen, tenor sax; with Joe Piela, piano; Chacho Ramirez, drums; and TJ, bass.

At 3:15 p.m. the Tusten Historical Society will lead a walking tour through Narrowsburg, as “Natives in the Know” reveal fascinating facts about Narrowsburg (aka Big Eddy). The group will meet in the Mews (Main Street between Coffee Creations and Nest).

At 8 p.m. in the Tusten Theatre, the 23rd annual Music of Our Time concert presents the world premiere of Kevin Vertrees’s composition, “Fluid Dynamics,” for eight musicians. In addition, Vertrees presents his multimedia event based on the construction of the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn. The composer will attend the concert. Other works by Bartok, Debussy and Lawrence Zoernig will be played. Tickets cost $15 and are available at the door or by calling 845/252-7272.

At 9:30 p.m., live music continues into the night at Gerard’s River Grill, where the house band (led by Bob Lohr, bass) will host guest musicians, including Bob Keller on saxophone. In addition to fine dining and a menu that ranges from pizza to steak pizzaiola, a lively jazz scene has been developing at Gerard’s.
