Hobgood, Ruffalo deliver first cast

March 31, 2011

ROSCOE, NY — Laurence Hobgood and Mark Ruffalo will join to deliver the first cast at Junction Pool on Saturday, April 2. Hobgood is a celebrated musician whom Dave Brubeck has described as “one of the most incredible pianists I have ever heard.” Oscar-nominated actor Ruffalo had earlier thought he would have to cancel his first-cast appearance, but is now back on the agenda.

The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum’s (CFFCM) first family of fishing, the Phelans, and the Roscoe Chamber of Commerce will host Hobgood, special guest Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther and others at the first cast, which takes place at 7:30 a.m. Afterward, all attendees are invited to a special surprise birthday party and presentation ceremony—for someone whose identity will only be released that day.

The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum will open immediately following the streamside activity. Ted Patlen will launch the Saturday Guest Fly Tyers Program, fly tyer Don Bastian will bring in his Bergman-replicated collection in its entirety for display, and Roscoe’s most recognized artist, Jack Yelle, will sign and sell his limited edition “2011 First Cast” print. Mike Canazon and the bamboo boys, sponsored by the Livingston Manor Lions Club, will be at the Livingston Manor Gym from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to cast off some of the winter dust.

At 6 p.m. the Roscoe chamber will host the traditional “Two Headed Trout” dinner at Rockland House. Participants can bid on select auction items donated by chamber businesses, meet old friends and trade stories of last year’s great fishing. The cost is $45. Reservations can be made at 607/498-5765, 498-4139 or 498-6146.
