Hungry in New York
September 18, 2013 —
ALBANY, NY — One in eight households in New York State struggled with hunger on average in the years 2010-2012, according to new data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service in its annual report on food insecurity.
According to Hunger Solutions NY, these new food insecurity numbers come as the Farm Bill remains on Congress’ agenda. The House leadership is expected to introduce a bill that would strip $40 billion in funding from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), forcing millions of people off of the program.
