State police make arrests in Narrowsburg thefts

On August 23, 2013 State Police at Liberty received reports from fifteen separate victims in and around the Narrowsburg area that personal items had been stolen from their parked vehicles during pre-dawn hours. Items reported stolen included Ipods, wallets, credit cards, currency, GPS units, a .380 caliber pistol, and numerous other personal effects.
An investigation led to the arrests of Walter Amerbach, age 22 of Narrowsburg, NY and Nicholas Siegler, age 18 also of Narrowsburg. Amerbach was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, both felonies.
Siegler was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree. Both were arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail with no bail set. The investigation led to the recovery of numerous items stolen from the parked vehicles along with three rifles that had been reported stolen to State Police during a burglary on August 22nd. A rifle reported stolen to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Dept was also recovered.
On September 3, 2013 State Police arrested Cody Lemon, age 20, of Smallwood. An investigation revealed that Lemon had broken into a home on Route 97 and removed the rifles. He was charged with Burglary 2nd Degree and ultimately remanded to the Sullivan County Jail. The investigation is continuing. State police were assisted by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Dept.
