Helping a child go to summer camp
Each year, the Recovery Center provides an invaluable opportunity to a great number of Sullivan County children and affords them the chance to attend a week of summer camp. These children of need will experience the delights of “camp life,” learn new life skills and, perhaps for the first time, the joys of simply being a child in a safe and fun environment. I cannot stress enough the impact this program makes on each child, which is absolutely priceless as it relates to their future.
On Friday, June 28, the Recovery Center will present me with a Lifetime Achievement Award, a recognition that I am both honored and humbled to receive. For more than 45 years I have supported and worked on behalf of the youth of Sullivan County and their families, and I would like to share this award with the deserving children of this county, all of whom we would like give the opportunity to attend camp.
Last year, 53 of 100 applicants were able to have this experience; this year, I am appealing to each business and resident of Sullivan County to join me in working toward our goal for 2013 and enable all 100 children to attend summer camp.
It would mean so much, not only to me, but to the children and families of Sullivan County to have your support in this very important endeavor. You may consider assisting in one or more of the following ways:
• Purchase a ticket or table at the Celebration “Roast” Dinner to be held on June 28.
• Purchase an advertisement in the annual Recovery Center Journal by June 18.
• Sponsor one day of camp ($120) for a less fortunate child.
While an award from the Recovery Center is immensely cherished, the greatest gift to me would be to serve as the catalyst that ensures each and every child this very critical opportunity to attend camp.
Thank you in advance for your generous support.
