Lake Huntington News May 9
May 8, 2013 —
The Pride of Cochecton awards brunch was very nice at the Villa Roma. I was sitting next to Judy Yavarkovsky and we were talking about how hard it is cleaning out our mothers’ houses.
I suggested that we have a penny social and call it in honor of our dead mothers, but Judy did not think we had time to get it together before Mother’s Day. You have to laugh; there is so much to do and so many memories. It will make you nuts if you do not laugh.
The Women’s Community Club of Cochecton (WCCC) is sponsoring a bus trip to Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Thursday, May 23. The public is invited to join us for a day of fun, which will also help us to help the town.
The bus leaves Lake Huntington at 9 a.m. and Narrowsburg at 9:15, and returns about 6 p.m. The cost is $33, and you will receive a bonus of $25 free play and a $10 food credit. For reservations, call Judy at 845/932-8210.
WCCC also invites all Sullivan West High School (SWHS) graduating seniors who live in the Town of Cochecton to apply for our scholarships by writing an essay about community service. All essays must be received by May 21, or the student may make a presentation at our regular club meeting on May 14.
Note to students: To be eligible you must live within the Town of Cochecton, regardless of your postal address. If you or your parents/guardians vote at the Town Hall in Lake Huntington, that confirms that you are a Cochecton resident.
There are no requirements regarding the number of words or pages.
For further information, visit the guidance office at SWHS, or call WCCC president, Pam DeMan at 845/252-7198.
The next WCCC meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 the Old Town Hall. Refreshments will be served. All Cochecton women are welcome.
I went to the wake of Stanley Kuta. I have never seen a wake like this before where they had his motorcycle next to the casket.
Very sad, another great person gone. Stanley was such a kind, generous person right to the end. Stanley donated his retinas, so he will live on in someone else’s eyes.
Have a great week, and email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 845/252-3568 if you have any news.
