Armed officers in Sullivan schools; Legislators approve a deal with three districts

Monticello Central School District is one of three that will be provided with an armed officer, known as a “school resource officer,” in a deal worked out with the county legislature and the sheriff’s office.

The other schools, Sullivan West Central School District and Roscoe School District, were not mentioned at the meeting, and the superintendents of those schools could not immediately be reached for comment.

As the meeting came to a close, LaBuda said, “While this may be a necessary evil, to me it’s a sad day when you think that you have to put armed officers in our school districts. And I wonder where the future of our country is headed.”
