TOWN OF BETHEL, NY — Bessie, the only life-size fiberglass Holstein dairy cow in Sullivan County, who was spirited away from her Bethel pasture on Hurd Road on August 18 or 19, has been returned to her rightful place.
Janice Meyerson wrote in an email, “Here is a happy ending: the [New York State Police at Liberty] found the cow in the Boy Scout camp in Beaver Brook, near Narrowsburg. The troop leader had the Boy Scouts return Bessie to our yard today. That’s all they told me, and we are happy to have her back, as are all our neighbors.”
Bessie has been a landmark on the road for 10 years.
