CLINTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Emergency workers responded to a fire on White Oak Pond Road in Clinton Township in Wayne County on July 4, to battle a blaze that officials say was sparked by fireworks.
Investigators now say the fire started when a firework started a grass fire that spread to a mattress outside the home. Then flames reached the curtains inside a window.
Firefighters had to travel a bit farther to get water because White Oak Pond, which is nearby the home, had been drained in October by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, because it was determined that the dam was structurally deficient.
The house, which was the home of Jean Angermeier, was totally destroyed in the blaze. No one was inside the home when the fire started.
