NARROWSBURG, NY — The 2007-11 formula for protecting river fisheries from fluctuating summer water temperatures has been extended through May of 2017.
The extension, the fifth one-year extension of the Flexible Flow Management Plan, was announced in a May 31 press release from the office of Robert Mason, the Delaware River Master of the U.S. Geological Survey, which was distributed at the June 2 meeting of the Upper Delaware Council.
Revisions to the plan, to make it more flexible, have repeatedly been sought by anglers, river guides and other fishing interests in recent years.
A 2011 University of Delaware study determined that fishing in the basin is a $1.22 billion industry and that along the Beaverkill, East Branch, West Branch, and upper main stem of the Delaware River in New York, wild trout fishing provides 350 jobs with $3.6 million in wages.
