UPPER DELAWARE VALLEY — It’s Halloween time in the region, and if the people here are like those in the rest of the country, we will be spending a frightening amount of money on the holiday. Total spending in the U.S. on candy, costumes and other items related to Halloween is expected to reach nearly $7 billion, with individuals spending an average of nearly $75 each, according to projection from the National Retail Federation.

The most popular Halloween costumes this year certainly reflect the times. Masks of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump are in high demand, as are masks bearing the likeness of Olympic champion Caitlin Jenner. Another favorite for 2015 is “El Chapo,” the Mexican drug lord who escaped from prison earlier this year.

And then of course there is the sexy Pizza Rat inspired by a video of a real-life rat dragging a slice of pizza down the stairs of a subway station in New York City. A company called Yandy is selling the costume and pitches it as a “body-hugging grey mini dress with a white front panel, an attached tail, an attached hood with adorable rat ears, and two attached pepperoni pizza slice pockets.”

If you’d like to find a place to wear you costume, check out our Halloween happenings on page 19.
