COCHECTON, NY — On May 16 at about 4 p.m. the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a motorcycle accident on State Route 97 near County Route 114 in the Town of Cochecton.

Deputies found a 2001 Harley-Davidson that had run off the road and ejected the two riders. The motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve. Gus Kerkoulas, 59, of Hortonville, who was the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene by Sullivan County Coroner Elton Harris.

The passenger, Emmy Curran, 38, was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center and then later transferred to Westchester Medical Center. Curran died from her injuries the next day. It is not believed that any other vehicle was involved in the accident.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Lake Huntington and the Tusten fire departments as well as the Tusten ambulance service and Mobile Medic. Anyone who witnessed the accident or can provide information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s confidential TIPS line at 845/807-0158.
